Should physicians rely entirely on genes detected to determine which antibiotic works?

This depends, as every laboratory may have a different panel of resistance genes they test for. Some laboratories test for more genes than others. The more comprehensive the testing, the more confidence an antibiotic can be used that will work effectively.
