All OneChoice reports recommend oral antibiotics as a priority, when possible. This is because avoiding IV antibiotics when oral options are available is an essential part of antimicrobial stewardship. However, there are situations when IV antibiotics are clinically indicated and cannot be avoided. Examples include when the diagnosis requires IV antibiotics, such as osteomyelitis, or bloodstream infections. Also, if resistance is present, which doesn't allow for the use of oral antibiotics, IV antibiotics will then be recommended.
